Each trip is unique in that we offer one or more activities with local women who are making a significant difference in their community. Sometimes these activities involve visiting women-run cooperatives, shopping for artisan wares crafted by females, visiting museums dedicated to women, or meeting with local women. These activities are designed to make us aware of women in other cultures, how they live and their struggles to be heard and to become successful in their community. These encounters can have a significant impact on both groups of females. The details of these activities are shared upon arrival.
We will experience Cape Town’s scenic beaches such as Muizenberg Beach and Camps Bay and have free time to give everyone a chance to explore the beach towns and shop around the various streets of this unique city.
South Africa is known for their vineyards and Stellenbosch is one of the top places to taste test in the country. We will spend a relaxing day visiting a few tasting rooms and touring a vineyard to learn about South Africa’s wine region.
The Old Biscuit Mill hosts bustling Saturday markets that we will be sure not to miss. From clothing and accessories to food stalls and live music, we will spend a few hours just using all of our senses at this market!
You can’t travel to one of the world’s most renowned places to shark cage dive and not attempt it! Don’t worry, you don’t need a diver’s license for this. You also have the option of sitting this one out and watching from the boat (better pics this way!).
There are some amazing hikes in Cape Town, and we will be taking you on one of our all-time favorites- Lion’s Head. We will hike this peak to watch the sunset. This is a medium level hike that rewards you with the most stunning views (and IG pics).
One of our day trips will be to the Cape of Good Hope, a place that has the common misconception of being the southern most point in Africa. Along the way, we will make a brief stop at Chapman’s Peak, a mountain pass that took seven years to build with a pickaxe. Lastly, we will watch penguins in the wild and be within a few feet of them to truly observe them in their natural habitat on the beaches of South Africa.
Cape Town Classics
Most people think of the iconic Table Mountain when they envision Cape Town and we want to be sure you see Cape Town’s icons! We will take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain for spectacular views of the entire city and ocean.
One morning will be spent riding a ferry boat over to Robben Island (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to learn about the prison that held many politicians during apartheid. We will visit a museum and also see Nelson Mandela’s prison cell while there
Touring a township is one of our favorite activities on this trip. A township was a community designated for only Black African occupation during the apartheid. We will be guided through the area (by foot and car in some areas) by an experienced township resident. We will get the chance to peak inside a home or two, see how the township locals live and chat with a few locals.
