Our Stay

We will be residing inside the walls of the traditional medina (town) so that you can immerse yourself in the culture. Our riad, a traditional Moroccan house with an inner courtyard, will provide an easy launching point for us to explore the winding labyrinth of passageways and alleys that constitute the souk(markets). At the end of a day of discovery, the riad will also provide a tranquil retreat from the chaotic rhythm of the medina. You will be staying only a short walk from Jemma el-Fnaa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, often referred to as an open-air theater due to the musicians, snake charmers, belly dancers, storytellers and a variety of other characters who fill the square in the evenings creating a scene from One Thousand and One Nights.

To uncover some of the vast secrets of the city and discover the rich history, we will use a well-known private tour guide to visit significant sites such as the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and Saadian Tombs. Outside of the walls of the medina, we will take the time to savor the Majorelle Gardens which houses the intricate displays of the Berber Museum. Shopping, not to be forgotten, will be an important activity on this trip as the souks contain a vast array of perfumes, spices, clothing, Moroccan shoes, caftans, baskets and fabrics. We will have the opportunity to discover this wondrous array of wares using both a guide as well through our own individual wanderings.

An essential part our cultural experience of visiting Marrakech is a visit to a traditional Moroccan hammam (spa). This ritual dates back thousands of years and it is one that you will not want to miss. The traditional hammam massage includes a body scrub and a massage that is unlike any other due to the unusual ingredients and the different components of the ritual. You will come away feeling very clean, relaxed and refreshed.

Henna gatherings are common in the Middle East and often given for special occasions. A henna tattoo artist will join us for you to partake in this traditional custom that Middle Eastern women have enjoyed for centuries. We will also embark on a culinary experience by engaging in the preparations of the traditional dishes of Morocco with local women.

After the frenetic pace of Marrakech, the tranquility of the desert will be a welcomed relief. Glamping is the modern day solution for women who want to experience the ancient call of the desert but in comfort! We will embark on a journey to the desert and spend two nights glamping in tents. Our meals will be cooked by women in a nearby Berber village and brought in daily.  We will dine on a communal table in shaded areas during the day and under the stars and by candles at night.  We have the opportunity to ride camels, trek through the Atlas Mountains (easy level), have lunch in a Berber village, gaze at the stars at night under the guidance of an astrologer, play board games and just rest and relax! The beauty and calmness of the desert is an experience not to be missed!

Additional Information:

We will be visiting Marrakech during Ramadan. Ramadan is the month when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. However, this will only enhance our visit as the souk is a little less crowded during the day. Shops open around 10:00 a.m. and close before individuals break the fast (closing about an hour before sunset) and then open back up about an hour and a half after sunset and stay open until late at night. Foreigners are not expected to fast and we can move around freely and have water with us wherever we go. We will be respecting the custom and not walk down the street eating; however, during the day the restaurants still cater to foreigners and our riad will also be cooking some of our meals for us. In the evenings, the restaurants are alive and filled!

The benefits of visiting during Ramadan are many; a cannon is sounded every evening to signal the breaking of the fast, special foods are served after sundown that you can only eat during Ramadan, the shops stay open until 2:00 in the morning and the souk is alive and brightly lit in the evenings.

Glamping

We will be spending two nights in the Moroccan desert camping in upscale tents (glamping).  All tents have an attached private bathroom facility and desert-type shower. Each couple has their own private tent. We will be 'roughing' it a little, but when we return to Marrakech we will indulge in  hammam scrubs and treatments which will wash away the desert sand!

Riad

The riad where we will be staying is located within the walls of the old medina and was awarded the Gold List Award by Conde Naste Traveller in 2017.  The interior design is quite stunning and all sleeping options are suites.  We have reserved the entire riad for our exclusive private use for our group. The riad is surrounded by traditional high walls creating a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere inside but only minutes away from the excitement of the souk!  The rooftop provides the ideal setting for breakfast, relaxation and sunsets!  The staff at the riad offer  attentive and low-key service at all times. They will be happy to help you unpack or pack your luggage and offer a variety of services for your convenience.  Laundry and ironing are available on request for a separate fee.

In this traditional riad, there is a wide variety of choices of suites and prices so it is important that you carefully read the description and look at the pictures under the booking option to select which type of suite you would prefer.  Each option is unique and you will need to book early to ensure that you secure the suite that you feel you would be most comfortable in! Please note that there are no elevators in the riad.

Trip Style: Cultural

Category:  Luxury

Group Size: 8-12 Women

OUR STAY

Our focus on this trip will be on immersing ourselves in the culture and saturating our senses. We will eat decadent foods and drinks but balance this indulgence by walking, cycling and tango. We will be staying in Palermo Soho, one of the trendier parts of Buenos Aires. Our hotel is on a quiet street a short walk away from cafes, restaurants, parks, museums and artisanal markets. You will have plenty of free time to stroll the lazy tree-line cobblestoned streets and browse boutiques situated in converted warehouses and Spanish-style houses.

On this trip, a variety of decadent culinary experiences await you. We will begin with a rather generous breakfast by the pool at the hotel followed by an exploration of a wide array of samplings of Argentine foods at local restaurants in Palermo. In addition, for a more personal and intimate experience, we will sample a multicourse meal with wine pairings at a closed-door restaurant known as Puertas Cerradas. Puertas Cerradas are private dining rooms in the homes of local chefs. Known for their variety and high quality, these dining alternatives have become quite popular in recent years and offer you an authentic cultural experience. To help us take a little of the culture with us, we will take a cooking class to learn how to prepare traditional foods.

The vast array of high-quality local wines available in Argentina and the enthusiasm of locals to consume this libation has, in part, influenced the Argentine government to declare wine as their national drink.  Wines as well as wine tasting establishments are plentiful throughout Buenos Aires and in keeping with the spirit of the local customs, we will indulge in wine tasting as well as enjoy wines with some of our meals.

A cultural immersion trip to Argentina would not be complete without appreciating polo. The game of polo is considered a national obsession in Argentina and their players’ skills are unmatched in the sport. In high demand worldwide, Argentinian polo players are referred to as ‘hired assassins’ when employed by overseas clubs.  Boys are trained in the skills of riding and the secrets of the game from a young age. As part of our cultural immersion experience, we will spend a day at a polo club watching a polo match, learning the rules of a simple game of polo and mounting horses and playing! No previous experience on horses is required.

An activity that is dear to many Argentinians is tango. Whether you are an experienced tango dancer or you have never tried the dance, you will have the opportunity to learn the basics of the dance during a group tango class. We will also watch a professional ‘stage’ tango show but even more important we will visit a ‘milonga’ (dance gathering) where seasoned locals dance tango the traditional way – with deep feeling and passion. You can join in on the dancing or feel free to watch!

For the Buenos Aires trip, there is free time built into the schedule every day except on the day that we spend at the Polo club. If you would like to take daily tango classes, please let us know and we can arrange this experience for an extra fee (we do not take a commission but the fee is for the instructor) or you can arrange this directly with the instructor yourself.

Buenos Aires is divided into various barrios or areas, each with a unique personality.  You will have plenty of opportunity to walk and visit the various cultural sites and talk with locals. We have the opportunity to take walking and cycling tours of the various barrios in Buenos Aires such as the brightly colored La Boca barrio which is lined with artists and markets and San Telmo where we will find street tango performers and antique dealers. To fully appreciate the historical offerings of Buenos Aires, we will tour the Evita Museum, the famous La Recoleta Cemetery and the breathtaking Teatro Colon opera house.

By the conclusion of our journey. You will have a true appreciation for the many delightful aspects of this Latin American culture!

Our Stay

We have an agenda that is full of interesting activities as well as plenty of free time for you to roam and explore during our week together. Since we are staying in the heart of Palma, individuals will have time to individually wander through the cobblestoned alleys and backstreets searching for unusual finds in boutiques and traditional markets.

We will begin most days with either a yoga or a meditation class. The purpose of starting our days this way is to ensure that you begin your days relaxed and slowly let go of the tensions of everyday work life and routines. Our classes focus on relaxation. The yoga classes are primarily for beginners to help stretch your muscles so that you feel refreshed for a day of adventure. The mediation classes are focused on just releasing your tension and helping you to clear your mind of any anxiety and worry.

A guide will narrate our tour of the Palma Cathedral, the Arab baths, the Palau de l-Almudaina, and the Museo Can Morey de Santmarti. Other interesting sites are within an easy walk of the hotel so that you can explore them at your leisure.

During our time together, we will tour the mountainous West Coast of Mallorca stopping in hillside villages to sample village food and local handmade goods as well as explore quaint ports along the way.
