Moroccan Wedding Blanket - Small

Moroccan Wedding Blanket - Small

$350.00

Moroccan Wedding Blankets, known as handira, are woven by Berber women in the Middle Atlas mountains of Northern Morocco. Each handira is unique and is usually woven out of sheep's wool, cotton, and linen by the women from the bride’s family. The blanket is adorned with metallic discs and rows of white fringe. Traditionally, after the wedding ceremony, the bride wears the blanket tied around her neck as a kind of cape. We purchased this blanket in the ancient souks of Marrakech on our March 2020 trip to Morocco. This is a vintage blanket that is in good shape but it does have signs of wear.

  • Made of wool, cotton, and linen and embellished with small metal discs.

  • Reverses to stripped back.

  • Spot clean only. Do not get the fringe wet.

  • Dimensions: 38 inches width x 71.5 inches length

  • Please note that the large wool pom poms are from another Berber bedspread that is underneath and is not part of the wedding blanket.

  • This wedding blanket is displayed on a full-size bed.
